This week’s blog is on the Life Lessons I gained from being in the Advanced Media Productions Class. This class along with my Band and Science Olympiad Class had many lessons for life and I think taking extra classes that maybe take more effort or time are good to go through if you have the opportunity.
Media has helped me connect more with my family and new people. Talking to new people helped me be more social especially with my family. Before I didn’t know what to say because I was too nervous to say anything to them because I barely talked to them because they’re way older than me. But now I’ve talked to lots of people so whenever I’m having a conversation with someone new seems like nothing. Now I’m more social and not so shy around other people I’m not so close to. Next is making deadlines. If you don’t make your deadlines, your dead. Deadlines are easy to set but making them is easier said than done. Making deadlines is something that I’ve learned in many other classes, but if you don’t make your deadlines in media your gonna be behind. This class has many projects and work to do and if you become behind the work just begins to pile up until you have more time to finish the work. Finally is Media helped me in language arts. Everyone knows about the other two lessons, but I don’t talk about this lesson to other people at all so if you’re reading this, you’re the first person to know about this. Before in Elementary School to the first quarter in 6th grade I could barely write and I was a C student and barely got B’s. But then in my 2nd quarter of 6th grade I worked with Kolten and we started writing scripts. We took the sources and information we had from our News Story and tried to find the points and main ideas from it. We did this a lot and now I’m a lot better at writing and my grades went up too. This is it for this weeks blog. Life Lessons come from a lot of opportunities, but letting yourself have those opportunities is the only way you learn. I didn’t ever think I would take extra classes, but now I’ve come a long way from doing the extra work.

Hey everyone I’m back for another blog. This week’s blog is on the Family Night video that I chose to show. I chose our Crazy Eights News Magazine Video that we did at the Crazy Eights competition. I wasn’t the only one who worked on the video. Haley, Evan, Natalie, Kate, Janine, Shayne, and Halea also worked on the video with me. We all equally did our part for this video and there are many reasons why I wanted to play this video.
First, is teamwork. Although a few of us have our different opinions, and argue out of Crazy Eights, we all put it aside and tried our best to not fight. This year it was challenging since we had a small team for a 8 minute video that usually has more people working on it. Even though we had separate teams in our one team, we all worked together and if there was something that needed to be done even if it wasn’t our job, we did it. Like Shayne and Halea were filming downtown Nashville and the other news stories needed footage from there. Second, the video showed that anyone can make a good video no matter how many setbacks or experience you have in the team. A lot of the time the 8th graders are a huge help to the team because they have the most experience but in this case only half of our group had been in News Magazine at STN. Since there will be the new students at the family night, I want to show them that even though they’re new and not as experienced, they can still do great work no matter how long they’ve been in the class. Finally, because most of them will be on the News Magazine team next year and I think it’s to see some of the STN categories and what it’s like. This video is a good example of what a News Magazine is like. It has a good opening with a good written stand up and a variety of different stories that all follow one certain topic. Although we turned it in with 2 minutes left, I think we did pretty good since we were filming stand ups an hour before it was due. This is why I chose the Crazy Eight News Magazine as my video to show at the Family Night. Hopefully the new students will want to join News Magazine after seeing the video and get a better understanding of what it is. Have a great day and wear your seatbelts. Hey everyone it's been a while. today I'll be writing about the STN Trip I just went on with the media class and what we did. He asked us today write about it so I'll just talk about my favorite parts. But if you want a bit more about the Trip I have a separate page for STN Blogs iand I wrote a blog for everyday. Anyway, let's get right into the blog
My 3rd favorite part of the trip was seeing snow and having a snowball fight. We sorta had two sides and not really at the same time, and we built snowmen by the hotel. The snow was really soft and not as cold as I thought it would be. It was really fun bonding with the class and playing around in the snow. Also in the snow was ice which I found a few times. talking about ice, we went ice skating and I fell a lot, but I got the hang of it after a while. My 2nd favorite thing we did was going around Boston and Nashville. We went on Broadway Street in Nashville and it was really long. It was fun to see the different places at Nashville and Boston. they're so different from Hawaii and really nice. I like the city in Boston and I'm thinking of living in the city when I grow up. Boston was really like Music City. Everywhere we went there was Music playing from cars to restaurants. This is why I liked walking around the city. Finally is my favorite part of the trip. Seeing friends and making new friends at STN. I made a lot of new friends and saw a lot of friends from Maui. I saw a lot of them last year, but I met a few new students this year and I still talk today them after the trip. We even saw them when we were going today Boston because they went go New York. Besides my friends from maui. I got today see my pen pal Ethan and everyone else from Castaic Middle School. Although I didn't really talk to them, I also made friends from Kona and they were cool too. Surprisingly I made a lot of new friends this year at STN this year. That's it from this week's blog. Have a great day and come back to see next week's blog. Wear your seatbelts. Hey y’all. So it’s that time of the quarter. Today I’ll be talking about my goals from last quarter that I had, and my new goals for this quarter. Last quarter my goals were to meet all my deadlines, take all the media opportunities I can, and turn in multiple drafts for my work. Did I complete my goals? Not even close. This quarter I’ll improve on them, but this time I have different priorities in order for me to even do those goals. This past quarter just wasn’t a great time for me like the first quarter. My goals for this quarter is to do Animations again, start work earlier so I have more freetime and to make the deadline for an anchoring practice.
First is to do Animations again. I don’t know if you saw my PSA from last quarter, but the animations were terrible. I didn’t have as much time to make it as good as I wanted to be, but now I have more time. I already started making the props, but there is still some improvements I would like to make to the props. I didn’t use it in a while, I found a better program to use to animate which will help me match the movements with the audio. Now onto starting work earlier. I start work on the first day, but then in the last couple days till the deadline is when I do most of the work. Sometimes it does work for me and I get away from it, but I should start working on it and getting it finished before hand. This happened with my PSA, we didn’t film till later. So I had to wait to start the animations. Hopefully the animations will be more accurate and a lot better than last time. Finally is to meet the deadline for an Anchoring Practice. We had 4 practices and didn’t make any of the deadlines. We are really close to finishing, but there is a lot of work we still need to do. Luckily we have a couple more practices and Crazy Eights to practice which will help us. Since I was the only one on the team who did anchoring last year, if we don’t make the deadlines I’ll feel really bad cause it’ll be my fault. Those are my goals for this quarter. Hopefully I’ll be able to accomplish my goals this quarter. Although my goals from last quarter weren’t completely good, I’ll try to accomplish my goals for this quarter. Have a great day and wear your seatbelt. Happy Thanksgiving y’all! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and Black Friday. I ate a lot of food and my mother kept me at the mall till 1am which I’m never gonna do again. Anyway, this week’s blog topic is 3 things we’re thankful for. I’m thankful for a lot of stuff so choosing was pretty hard for me.
The first thing I’m thankful for is food, water, and a home. A lot of people in the world don’t have these and I couldn’t live without food and water, literally. I know a lot of people are thankful for this, but I think people need to think about how important it is to have food and water. Also, I have a home where I can stay safe, sleep, and never leave no matter how long I stay indoors. I don’t know how life would be if I didn’t have enough food or water. I’m really picky and I’m lactose intolerant so I’m also thankful for dairy free food. Life would be terrible without lactose free food. Next, I’m thankful for friends and family. All my relatives that aren’t related by marriage live on Oahu which is around 100 miles of water away from me. Luckily, I have friends which is just as good. There is too much to list, but if you’re reading this you’ll know who you are. I still have this friend from preschool and his name is Keith, or Laurent (Your choice). Luckily my friends still talk to me after I talk about “Newsies” everyday which I’m listening to as I’m writing this blog. If you haven’t already watched it, it’s a broadway musical that they recorded and put on Netflix. Although most of my relatives live on Oahu, for the relatives that live here on Kauai, thank you my parents for the house, and I just got a room, thank you sister for the room and the Air Conditioning in the living room, thanks brothers for moving out so I could move into your old rooms. Finally, is school. I get really stressed out from school projects, especially media work, but sometimes it’s worth it in the end. I’m also Thankful for Hiki No wanting every Hiki No project I worked on, besides the the 1st ever media project I did which is the Franchise Piece. All but 1 of my friends I made were from school. Although I don’t get why half of the stuff we learn in school, the other half like Art, S.T.E.M., and Media helped me find out I like technology and art which is why I like making animations. I’m thankful for having good teachers. I’m thankful for learning for learning how to play the Oboe, even though if I stay for next year, I can move onto the Bassoon or bass clarinet, and I’ll have to learn to play the clarinet, cymbals, and flute and choose one for marching band. That’s what I’m thankful for. I’m lucky to have what I have and I don’t know what I’d do without friends and family. Have a great weekend and a great day. Hey everyone, I’m back again for another blog. This is my second blog so far this quarter. I haven’t talked to you guys in a while so this week I’ll be giving you an update about how school has been going so far, and what’s been going on with school this school year. I’ll talk to you about media, school, and what’s been happening so far this school year.
First is media. So far this quarter I had Inside Scoops with Evan which was really stressful, but we were able to turn it in on time with one mistake that we know of. I was really surprised since we turned them in, recorded them, and worked on the scripts on the same day. I did quite a lot of editing for our Morning Announcements Short Film along with doing the STN Fall Challenge which I heard Hiki No wants so we’ll be working more on it. Janine and I finished the last of the Ethan Teves Video Drafts and it aired already. I feel very excited, but stressed because I end up working on another Hiki No video right after I finish working on another Hiki No video. It’s worth it in the end though. Also, the King Kamuali’i Event video is almost done, we’re just looking over it again and passing it around between Evan, Keith, and I. Also, we’re teaching a Middle School at Boston and I’m on the CAPs team. Second is school. I’m doing a Science Fair project with Kate who is also in media and that’s about all of the events that’s going on this month. I’m in band and I play the oboe which is kind of hard to play and I’m marching in this Christmas parade we have. Since it’s my first year, I’m only passing out candy and holding signs or banners. Also, next month we have a CKTV Breakfast fundraiser and so I’ve been going around asking a lot of people. Finally, the rest of my classes have been going good. In late December I’ll be having my first band performance which I’m nervous for. I’m doing this Science Olympics class and my partner is Tematahira who is a 6th grader and is really cool, Finally, is about what has happened this school year so far this school year. I miss a bunch of the people from last year who have moved on from media, but as long as they’re happy, I’ll support them and I still keep in touch with most of them. I’ve had a lot more work to do this year and without Kolten things are different. I’m not used to having 2 partners and I don’t really think that it’s really been working well, so I’m trying to find a way to change that. I’ve worked on new morning announcements openings, but they probably won’t be going on the morning announcements till next year judging by how little time I have to work on it. I’ve been having a lot of work and stress this year. I know other people have a lot of work too, but I haven’t really had free time and most of the it’s school work, band work, or media work. In conclusion, that’s how the school year has been going for me. It’s a bit long for some of you to read. So many new changes, stress, and work to do. Make it a great day Bye. Hey ya’ll, it’s the first week of the quarter and you know what that means, new quarter goals. I looked back at last quarter’s goals to see if I accomplished any of them. I sorta met my deadlines this year, but if I was late, it was a day after I was supposed to finish it. I didn’t procrastinate and I’ve been stressed because of that, and I took all but one opportunity this quarter and that was because of my birthday. Anyway I have a new goal for this quarter which is to do the best work I can this school year. I can achieve this by making all my deadlines, turning in multiple drafts, and to take all the media opportunities this quarter.
First of all is to meet all my deadlines, last quarter I did pretty good for turning in my work, but this year I’ll try to turn in all my work earlier. Sometimes this quarter I would be so late on projects that I only have 1 draft and we end up getting a good grade, but a grade that we could’ve made better if we worked on it more. This’ll also be good, because I usually turn in all my work right before the deadline, which I should get out of the habit of doing, Next is turning in multiple drafts. Turning in multiple drafts gives us feedback and we know what we need to work on to make our video from good to great. Every improvement counts and after all the stress, I know that the outcome will be worth it. However, more drafts we have, the earlier we have to turn in our first draft. I've sorta came up with schedule, but most of the time it doesn't work out. Hopefully this everything works out with our schedule so we can turn in our drafts early. Finally taking all the opportunities I can this quarter. Last quarter I did everything except the Hiki No challenge, but that was because I was celebrating my birthday which I already pushed a month back for the Hiki No Story I’m working on about Ethan Teves. I filmed Stand Ups for the Kalalau Video, I did the King Kamuali’i Event Video, and this week I’m doing the STN Fall Challenge. I know that the more work I do, the more I can improve on doing media work. In conclusion, those are my goals for this quarter. I think I did pretty good with my goals last quarter and I hope I’ll do the best work I can . I hope everyone reading this has a great day, Bai. Hello, I’m back again for another blog this week. The blog topic is on the toughest challenge this school year. I’m not sure if we talk about three of the toughest challenges this school year, or if we just talk about a change this school year and three reasons why it’s hard. I’m just gonna talk about having 3 partners and how it can be challenging this school year. I think having groups of 3s have ups and downs. I feel like since most of us are used to having only one other partner, the way we do work, takes some getting used to. Not only is it hard to work in groups of 3, but with a small class, there are some others challenges.
First of all, this affects quarterly projects that we do with our partners. Last year, sometimes it was easy for one person to not do work being the other person could do it. This year, you would think that it would work out so we would have less work to do, but the challenging part is equally dividing the work. Most of the time it's someone is doing the work alone, or someone isn't doing any work at all. I'm in a group of 3 and we're still working out ways so we all do work. Although it was hard to equally divide the work, we began to sort to find certain spots we’re good at and we sort of just divided it by our strengths while the other two would work on something else for our group or just help the 1st person. Next, is Inside Scoops. Since we have an odd amount of people in our class, we have a system or a list of people and our partners for inside scoops and it sort goes in a chain. The hard part is, most of us won’t work with our partners. This makes work hard, being we have to work around other people's time and schedules. But, it helps us bond with each other and sort of work with limited time and learn how to use time efficiently and effectively. I feel like Inside Scoops help us with time management. Although it is very challenging to work through others’ schedule, I know it’s hard, but we’ll find a way to make it work somehow. Finally, is Morning Announcements, both working behind the scenes, and announcing. People will be late sometimes, but it’s nobodies fault if there was a car crash or something happened. The hard part is finding someone to fill in for people who are running late. So far, people who can’t make it on time, text people who are working, in advance. This gives us quite a lot of time to think or come up with an idea, instead of going crazy. Having a smaller class, makes it hard to find replaces, this is because most of the time, there are only 4 people to choose from. Luckily, everyone this school year, made it on time so we can have people fill in and we get 1 practice at the least. In conclusion, this is my opinion on how a smaller class, and groups of three can be challenging at times. I feel like this is something new, that is challenging now, but as we work with each other this school year, we can make things work easier. Anyway, thanks for reading and wear your seatbelt. Hi, I’m back for more blogs. This is my first blog this school year. Since it is the first blog, the blog topic is on what our goals are for the school year. I have many goals this year, but there are only three that I felt were the most important. Knowing myself, I’m probably not gonna make all of my goals, but hopefully I do. My goals, are to meet all my deadlines, not procrastinate as you probably expected, and to take all the media opportunities I can this year.
First of all is deadlines. From what I know, I made all the deadlines I had so far this year. Some were really close to not making it, and I’ll try to not make it a habit and instead turn in my work early. As you can already see, as I am writing this blog, it is Saturday and Sunday starts in 8 hours. Deadlines are something I didn’t do so well too, I only missed a couple, and most deadlines barely made it. For our Hiki No story, I’ve been making my own deadlines for our group so that we have time to keep looking over our video to find little mistakes. This sort of worked out, but then things changed so we weren’t able to make as I wanted to, but it’s okay. Next, is to not procrastinate. Procrastinating is something I always do, I started this blog on Monday, but didn’t finish it till today. Also, lately I’ve been working on homework, media work, and band work. Although sometimes I’ve been staying up later, the main part is I’m still getting work done efficiently. I want to keep this up and stay away from pushing things back a lot. Hopefully after all this beginning of the year work, and everything settles down, I’ll be able to make a schedule to do work so I just don’t do work in a random order. I hope I don’t procrastinate this year, and so far, I haven’t been as bad as I usually am. Finally, is take all the media opportunities I can this year. There are certain things I’ll stay away from that have to deal with speaking publicly, but besides that, I want to try and do challenges like Fall Challenge, Olelo, and Student Television Network Film Excellence. I thought about it, and I’m thinking of doing all of these this year. For Olelo I might shorten down the Ethan Teves Video I’m working on this quarter, and if I can submit it, the Kalalau Trail video I worked on last year. Kolten and I decided to not submit the video since we still had more drafts to work on it. For Film Excellence, I know some people were thinking of doing a short film, but what I noticed is that a bunch of films that won were animations, so I might consider it. Those are my goals for this year. I hope that I meet all the deadlines, to not procrastinate, and take all the media opportunities I can. My goals probably won’t be completely met, but they’ll probably close. Anyway, that’s it for my first blog, don’t do drugs and wear your seatbelts. |
